I love this pillow because it can be a cute decoration for your house, OR a snuggle companion for your kids! The velvet yarn makes it sooo soft and cuddly.

I know the velvet yarn debate is huge…but personally, I love it for things like this. It gives this pillow a fabric effect. From a distance, you can’t tell it’s crocheted!

Velveteen Rabbit Pillow

Notes:

1. Pillow is worked in joined rounds from the bottom up, in a long oval shape. Top is seamed. Ears are worked separately from the bottom up and sewn on.
2. Ch 1 at beginning of rounds does NOT count as st
3. MAKE SURE to count your stitches at the end of each round. Especially with velvet yarn, it is easy to skip a stitch, and this will throw off the increases and decreases. Stitch counts are provided at the end of each round—make sure to check your stitches against them!

Materials:

• 1 skein of Bernat Baby Velvet yarn
• Pink Fingering weight yarn (very small amount for nose)
• H/5mm Crochet Hook
• 3.5mm hook (for nose)
• Yarn needle
• Stuffing
• Embroidery Thread in black or dark blue (for eyes)

NOSE

With 3.5mm hook and fingering weight yarn, ch 7.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, Sc2tog. Sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog. Turn.

Row 3: ch 1, sc across. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 1, (Sc2tog) twice. Turn.

Row 5: Ch 1, Sc2tog. Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.

FINISHING

Step 1: Embroidering the eyes. Feel free to eyeball it if you’d like. However, I’ll tell you exactly where I placed my eyes:

Count approximately 12 sts from the side of head for the edge of the eye, and 13 rows from top of head. Place 8 sts between the span of one eye. And finally, leave 15 sts in between the two eyes.

Step 2: Attach the Nose. I placed mine 11 rows up from the bottom of head.

Step 3: Stuff your head! Then, sew the top closed. I used a whipstitch seam.

Step 4: Use a thin layer of stuffing to line the ears. You don’t want them to be too puffy, but you also don’t want them to flop too much.

Step 5: Sew the bottom of the ears closed.

Step 6: Sew the ears on the head! Place the ears at the back of the pillow to sew on. You want to sew them a few rows down to give them a bit more support to stand up. (They will still be somewhat floppy, but not as much if you attach them well.)

Weave in all ends—you’re done!
