I take my yarn with me pretty much wherever I go. Even if I don’t have a specific design in mind at the moment, I like having it nearby to try out ideas that pop into my head. One day, we were planning on going to a show. On the way out, I grabbed a small skein of yarn and hook—just in case. Sitting in the theater, waiting for the show to begin, these coasters were born.

I have made two samples of these coasters: a light blue one in cotton yarn, and a brown one in wool yarn. I’ve found that the wool one holds it shape a lot better than the cotton one, which tends to curl. They work up really quick, so feel free to experiment with different yarns! They would probably work fine in a sport weight acrylic yarn too.

1. Coasters are worked in the round and joined at the end. The Chain 3 always
counts as the first double crochet.

Materials:
● Any sport weight cotton yarn.
● F/3.75mm crochet hook
● Yarn needle to weave in ends

Finished Measurements:
Approximately 4 ¾” in diameter.

Instructions:
Ch 6, join with a sl st to first ch, forming a ring.

Rnd 1: ch 1 (does NOT count as st) 10 sc in ring. Join with sl st to first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in same st as sl st. (Ch 1, sk 1 sc, 3 dc in next sc) 4 times. Ch 1, sl st in
beg ch 3.

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in same st as sl st. Dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc. (Ch 2, sk ch-sp, 2 dc
in next dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) 4 times. Ch 2, sl st in beg ch 3.

Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in same st as sl st. Dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc. (Ch 3, 2 dc in next
dc, dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 4 times. Ch 3, sl st in beg ch 3.

Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in same st as sl st. Dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc. (Ch 4, 2 dc in next
dc, dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 4 times. Ch 3, sl st in beg ch 3.

Rnd 6: Ch 1 (does NOT count as st) sc in same st as sl st. Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next
sc, sc in next 4 sc. (sk next ch, sc in next 2 ch, sk next ch. Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next
sc, sc in next 4 sc) 4 times. Sk next ch, sc in next 2 ch, sk next ch, sl st to first sc.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
