In case you haven’t noticed, I love lace. It is one of my favorite things to design. With the Aspen Shawl, my goal was to create a simple lace pattern in the body of the shawl, and then add an elegant lace showpiece around the edges.

I think it turned out pretty well! Plus, I absolutely love the hand-dyed yarn I used. It is sport weight yarn from Sapphires n Purls, and it’s absolutely gorgeous! I love the colors and the springy feel of the yarn. Click here to see exactly what I used!

If you’ve never made a triangle shawl before, this one would be a great place to start! It uses simple stitches without—just double crochets and chains!

Another great thing about this shawl is that you can easily adjust it to be ANY size you want! There are only 2 rows of the repeating stitch pattern, and you can repeat them as many or as few times as you’d like.

Materials:

• 200 grams Sport Weight Yarn (I used hand-dyed yarn from Sapphires n Purls) 
• G/4.5mm Crochet Hook 
• Yarn needle

Notes:

1. Shawl is worked flat in turned rows, with increases at the beginning and end of each row, as well as increases in the center.
2. Ch 3 at beginning of rows counts as dc. 

Measurements: 

Easily Adjustable! This shawl has a repeating stitch pattern that makes it easy to make it as big or small as you want. 

Abbreviations/Stitches Used (U.S.) 

Chain – ch

Slip Stitch – sl st

Single crochet – sc

Double Crochet – dc

Repeat – rep

Round(s) – rnd(s)

Skip – sk

Space(s) – sp(s)

Stitch(es) – st(s)

Special Stitches:

Shell (sh): (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in indicated st.

V-Stitch: (Dc, ch 2, dc) in indicated st. 

Instructions:

Ch 4.

Row 1: 2 dc in 4th ch from hook. Ch 2, 3 dc in same ch. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, 3 dc in first dc. Sk 2 dc, sh in next ch-2 sp. Sk 2 dc, 4 dc in last dc. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, 3 dc in first dc. Dc in all dc up to the center sh. Sh in ch sp of center shell. Dc in all dc until 1 left. 4 dc in last dc. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 3, 3 dc in first dc. *Sk 2 dc, v stitch in next dc. Rep from * until 1 st before center sh. Sk next dc, sh in ch sp of center sh. Sk 1 dc, v stitch in next dc. **Sk 2 dc, v stitch in next dc. Rep from ** until 3 sts left. Sk 2 dc, 4 dc in last dc. Turn.

Rep rows 4-5 for a total of 34 rows. If you would like to adjust the shawl, do it here, before the edging. Simply keeping repeating rows 4-5 until it reaches your desired length. Make sure to end on a v-stitch row. 

EDGING

Row 35: Ch 3, 3 dc in first dc. Ch 5, Sk 4 dc, Sc in next ch-2 sp. Ch 9, Sk next v-st, Sc in ch-2 sp of next v-st. *Ch 6, sc in ch-2 sp of next v-st. Ch 9, Sk next v-st, sc in ch-2 sp of next v-st. Rep from * to center shell. Ch 6, sh in ch sp of center sh. Ch 6, sc in ch-2 sp of next v-st. Ch 9, Sk next v-st, sc in ch-2 sp of next v-st. **Ch 6, sc in ch-2 sp of next v-st. Ch 9, Sk next v-st, Sc in ch-2 sp of next v-st. Rep from ** across all v-sts. Ch 5, Sk 4 dc, 4 dc in last dc. Turn.

Row 36: Ch 3, 3 dc in first dc. Ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp. *Ch 6, 2 dc in next ch-9 sp. Ch 6, sc in next ch-6 sp. Rep from * to center sh. Ch 2, sh in ch sp of center sh. Ch 2, sc in next ch-6 sp. **Ch 6, 2 dc in next ch-9 sp. Ch 6, sc in next ch-6 sp. Rep from ** across all ch sps. Ch 5, sk 3 dc, 4 dc in last dc. 

Fasten off and weave in all ends.
