Crochet Heart Shawl Pattern Inspiration

I’ve always thought it was fun to make little shapes and designs in crocheted lace.

So when I was thinking about this shawl, I really wanted it to feature little lace hearts. I wanted to design a shawl that was perfect for Valentines Day. I hope you would agree I did well!

You could easily wear this shawl for a romantic valentines date night, or just out and about for the spirit of the holiday!

Overall, I’m so happy with the way it turned out. I hope you love the pattern as much as I do!

A Mandala Yarn Crochet Pattern

One last thing before we get started on the shawl: we have to talk about the yarn!

I used Lion Brand Mandala for my shawl, and I abosultely loved working with it!

Mandala is a DK (#3) weight yarn, so if you want to substitute yarn, choose one in this weight.

However, Mandala can be easily bought on the Lion Brand website or your local Joann, so you might just want to stick with it!

Notes:

  1. Shawl is worked flat in turned rows, with increases at the beginning and end of each row, as well as increases in the center.
  2. Ch 2 at beginning of rows counts as dc.
  3. I chose to cut the mandala yarn in certain places when the color change was very abrupt (like in the middle of a row.) However, you can feel free to do your color changes however you want.

Crochet Heart Shawl FAQ

Can I use worsted weight yarn to make this heart shawl?

Yes, you could definitely try it. While I recommend sticking to DK weight because it will turn out a bit lighter, worsted weight can also work. I would just recommend staying away from “value” type yarns when making this shawl (like red heart super saver). Something like Caron Simply Soft would be a better choice.

How should I style this shawl?

You can style this shawl in any number of ways. First of all, make sure you wear it on Valentines Day! If it’s cold out, you can wear it around your neck like a triangle scarf. This is my personal favorite way to style it. But you can also drape it around your shoulders too if you prefer that look.

How do you make lace hearts?

This shawl makes lace hearts by using simple stitches. Tall double crochet form the sides of the heart, and a slip stitch is used to pinch the heart together in the middle.

Conclusion

I hope you have enjoyed the Amore Shawl free crochet pattern. This shawl is great for a romantic evening, or a walk in the park. You can style it lots of ways but no matter what, it is sure to be a sure-stopper!
