I actually first made this scarf before I even started my blog. I was just starting out with design, and scarves were my jam. So when I got this cozy, soft yarn from LoveCrafts, I knew it had to be a scarf!

What I didn’t know then was that this crochet project would become my favorite scarf ever!

Since then, I’ve worn this scarf anytime I need to be extra warm—in the snow, ice skating, winter hiking, etc.

It’s because I love this scarf so much that I’m excited to share the pattern with you! But before we get into that, let’s talk about some extra tips you’ll need to know.

How is it Made?

The Icicle Infinity Scarf is a super simple design that even beginners should be able to make! We will start off by making a foundation single crochet row, and from there we will proceed to make a long, thin rectangle. The stitches in the body of the scarf are all simple—ch, sc, dc, etc. At the end, we will simply sew the ends together!

As I said, super simple and beginner-friendly!

Is there an ad-free version?

YES! There is an easily printable version of this pattern that has no ads, AND also includes a visual stitch chart!

How can I get the Warmest Scarf Possible?

If you want your scarf to be AS COZY as possible, yarn choice is extremely important! Most people know that wool is a warm fiber, but did you know that alpaca is often even warmer? Plus, alpaca yarn is actually much softer than wool on its own.

I used an alpaca blend for this scarf…but unfortunately it is no longer sold on LoveCrafts where I purchased it. However, that doesn’t really matter, because there are endless yarn possibilities! There are plenty of other soft alpaca yarns that you can find on LoveCrafts.com. (In fact, I highly recommend purchasing there—I’ve been so pleased with my purchases!)

Notes: 

1. This scarf is designed to be made in 100 grams of yarn. 
2. The length is easily adjustable; the stitch pattern has only 2 repeating rows. To adjust width, simply add or subtract from the fsc row in multiples of 3.
3. It is worked widthwise, going back and forth in rows, turning at the end of each row. It is seamed at the end. 
4. When turning, ch 3 always counts as first dc. 

Materials: 

• Approximately 100 grams of alpaca DK weight yarn
• H/5mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle to weave in ends

Finished Measurements:

Approximately 10” wide (but may vary with your tension); length is fully adjustable. Learn more about scarf length and width here.

Instructions:

Fsc 33 (see appendix for fsc instructions), turn.

Rnd 1: ch 3, dc in first fsc. *Sk 2 fsc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next fsc, sk 2 fsc, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next st. Repeat from * till 7 sts left. Sk 2 fsc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next fsc, sk 2 fsc, dc in last 2 fsc. Turn.

Rnd 2: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next dc. *Ch 3, sc in next ch 2 sp, ch 3, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch 1 sp, repeat from * 3 more times. Ch 3, sc in next ch 2 sp, ch 3, dc in last two dc. Turn.

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in next dc. *(dc, ch 2, dc) in next sc, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next ch 2 sp, repeat from * 3 more times. (dc, ch 2, dc) in last sc. Dc in last 2 dc, turn.

Repeat rows 2-3 until scarf is desired length. End with row 3. 

Last row: Sc 33 evenly across, as follows: ch 1 (does NOT count as a stitch) sc in first 3 dc, *2 sc in next ch 2 sp, sk next dc, sc in next 2 dc, sk next ch 1 sp, sc in next 2 dc. Rep from * 3 more times. Sk next dc, 2 sc in next ch 2 sp, sc in last 3 dc.

Finishing: sew ends together. Weave in ends, and block. BLOCKING IS IMPORTANT! The lace will look so much better when opened up. If you don’t know how to block, be sure to check out this article.

The Peacock cowl features an easy stitch pattern that is easily memorized. (Whether you’re memorizing crochet or memorizing piano chords, always take your time! The fact that this project has few row repeat really helps).

It is also a 1-skein project, which is always the best, isn’t it?!

The yarn I used for my cowl is Mary Maxim Prism. To get the same effect as mine, I highly recommend using this yarn! However, if you’d like a good substitute, I also recommend Lion Brand Mandala or Lion Brand Cupcake.

Both of these are also multicolored and DK weight, the same as Prism yarn!

1. Ch 3 at beginning of rows counts as dc
2. Ch 1 at beginning of rows does NOT count as sc
3. Cowl is easily adjustable. The stitch pattern is a multiple of 6+1, so width can be adjusted by adding or subtracting in this number to the fsc row. Length can be adjusted by repeating more rows (more info in pattern).

Materials:

• Approximately 275 yards of DK weight yarn (#3 light)
• Sample yarn: Mary Maxim prism yarn, 1 cake
• G (4.25mm) Hook
• Yarn needle

Abbreviations/Stitches Used:

Fsc – foundation single crochet

Chain – ch

Slip Stitch – sl st

Single crochet – sc

Double crochet – dc

Repeat – rep

Skip – sk

Stitch(es) – st(s)

Instructions:

Fsc 43 (or a multiple of 6+1 to adjust length).

Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc, here and throughout) dc in next fsc. Sk 1 fsc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next fsc. *Sk 2 fsc, dc in next fsc. Sk 2 fsc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next fsc. Rep from * until 4 fsc left. Sk 2 fsc, dc in last 2 fsc. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, dc in next dc. Sk 2 dc, dc in next ch-2 sp. *Sk 2 dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next dc. Sk 2 dc, dc in next ch-2 sp. Rep from * until 4 dc left. Sk next 2 dc, dc in last 2 dc. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, dc in next dc. (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next dc. *Sk 2 dc, dc in next ch-2 sp. Sk 2 dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next dc. Rep from * until 2 dc left. Dc in last 2 dc. Turn.

Rep rows 2-3 for a total of 48 rows, OR until cowl reaches desired length!  

Last row: Ch 1, sc in first 2 dc. Sc in between next 2 dc. Sc in next 3 dc. Sc in next ch-2 sp. *Sc in next 5 dc, sc in next ch-2 sp. Rep from * until 5 dc are left. Sc in next 3 dc. Sc in between next 2 dc. Sc in last 2 dc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing..

Finishing:

Fold your finished rectangle in half and sew the 2 ends together. Note that the fabric is reversible, so it doesn’t matter which sides you put together when sewing.

Weave in ends.
