How to Crochet the Blueberry Stitch—Free Crochet Pattern

I’m excited to share with you a beautiful crochet stitch called the Blueberry Stitch! We will use puff stitches and double crochet to get a super cute effect. Use this stitch for scarves, blankets, and more!

The Blueberry Stitch sprung to life awhile ago when I was experimenting with puff stitches.

There’s just something about crocheted texture, ya know?

I love the endless combinations that can be formed when you combine texture with simple stitches.

As mentioned, this stitch is a nice combination of puffs and double crochet blocks. I love it so much!

Speaking of puff stitches – if you’re unfamilar with them, don’t worry! I have a video tutorial for you; just keep scrolling to the “special stitches” section.

How to Use the Blueberry Stitch

Now, one thing you might be wondering is how you can actually USE the blueberry stitch in projects.

I highly encourage you to make a swatch (a small square) of this stitch to try it out first.

Then, once you’re familiar with it, you can make it into anything you want!

I’ve seen various people post pictures of blankets & scarves they have made from this stitch pattern. It’s so cool, and I welcome it!

How to Crochet the Blueberry Stitch

Notes:

The Stitch pattern is a multiple of 6+3
Ch 3 at beginning of rows counts as a stitch

Materials:

You can potentially use any yarn and hook for this stitch. However, here’s what I used:

Red Heart Super Saver Yarn
H/8 Crochet Hook

Special Stitch

Puff Stitch: YO, insert hook into indicated st. YO, pull up loop. (YO, insert hook into same st, YO, pull up loop) 2 times. YO, pull through 6 loops on hook, YO pull through last 2 loops on hook.

Instructions:

Fsc a multiple of 6+3 (to start with a chain stitch, you will need a multiple of 6+4, and then a row of single crochet). For an easy tutorial on foundation single crochet (fsc), click here.

Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc, here and throughout) dc in next 2 sts. *Ch 1, sk next st, puff st in next st. Ch 1, sk next st, dc in next 3 sts. Rep from * across row. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1 (does not count as st, here and throughout), sc in first 3 sts. *Sc in next ch sp, sc in next puff st, sc in next ch sp. Sc in next 3 dc. Rep from * across row. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, puff st in next st. *Ch 1, sk next st, dc in next 3 sts. Ch 1, sk next st, puff st in next st. Rep from * until one st is left. Dc in last st. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sts. *Sc in next ch sp. Sc in next 3 dc. Sc in next ch sp, sc in next puff st. Rep from * till one st left. Sc in last st.

Rep rows 1-4 for stitch pattern!

I did 15 rows in the swatch.
