Instructions

Working with 2 strands of the yellow held together, Ch 3.

Row 1: 2 sc in second ch from hook and next ch, turn. (4 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc 2, 2 sc in last st, turn. 6 sc)

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. 

Row 4: Ch 1, sc 2, (Inc) twice, sc 2, turn. (8 sc)

Row 6: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc 4, sc2tog. (6 sc)

Row 7: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (6 sc)

Row 9: Ch 1, (sc2tog) twice. (2 sc)

Border: Sc in same st as sc2tog. Inc in next st down the side. Sc 7 evenly down the side. (Sc, ch 2, sl st in second ch from hook, sc in same st as first sc). Point made – should be in line with the top of lemon. Sc 8 up other side, inc. Sc in top of the same sc2tog, sc in next sc. join with sl st to next sc. 

Leaves:

Count 3 sts back from sl st (not including sl st). Join green (still working with 2 strands held together) with a sc in that st. Ch 4. Sc in second ch from hook, dc, sc. Sl st in same st you joined into. 

Sc in next st on lemon. Ch 5. Sc in second ch from hook, dc 2, sc. Sl st in same st from the lemon. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Crochet Ladybug Keychain Pattern

Materials Needed:

• Red & Black worsted weight yarn
• G crochet hook
• Clear glue
• Yarn needle

Instructions:

With red, Ch 2.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook. 

Rnd 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sc)

Rnd 3: Inc in next sc, sc in next sc. Rep from * around. (18 sc)

Rnd 4: Sl st in each st around. Fasten off red. 

Join black with a sc in the st to the right of the knot. Dc in same st. 2 dc in next st. (Dc, sc) in next st. 

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Antennas:

Cut 2 pieces of black yarn to the length you want the antennas to be. Use clear glue to form them into an antenna shape; let dry to harden. Then, glue them onto the ladybug.

Spots:

With black yarn, tie a knot. Bring both ends of the knot through to the back of the ladybug, so the knot is on the right side. Tie the two ends in the back, then weave in.

To attach a hanger, you can either use a metal keychain like I did (which makes it multipurpose! Use it as a keychain or an ornament). Or, refer to the video below to attach a yarn hanger.

Finally, use the last end to weave up and down through all the pieces a few times, until they are all secure in place. Then, tie a knot and weave in the end.

I’ve been completely overhauling my bathroom to make it more inviting for guests lately. I’ve been making bathroom sets, and brainstorming lots of crochet bathroom ideas that can be used for both decor and functionality.

Of course, one of the most obvious crochet items to put in the bathroom is a washcloth! You can leave one in the shower, or put it in a spa set, or even next to the sink.

(And while you’re at it, it’s a great idea make a crochet hand towel too!)

Explanation: Sometimes we all need a quick, easy project that can be put to use right away. Enter, the Simple Double Crochet Washcloth! This washcloth works up super fast and has a beautiful crab stitch border for a professional looking finish. There’s even a matching scrubbie pattern included!

Materials:

• Lily Sugar’n Cream Yarn: (100% cotton, 120 yds/109 m, 2.5 oz/71 g) in two contrasting colors (see more dishcloths that use sugar ‘n cream here!)
• Or a similar worsted weight cotton yarn
• G/4.5mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle

Notes:

1. Ch 2 at beginning of rows does NOT count as a dc.
2. Dishcloth is worked in a simple rectangle. We will start with a foundation single crochet row, which will keep the top and bottom edge the same size, rather than having a tight chain row. 
3. Written instructions will be shown first, with a tutorial for the crab stitch and the border on pages 3-5.

Measurements/Sizing:

Scrubbie: 3” wide

Small Dishcloth: 6” wide

Large Dishcloth: 8” wide

Double Crochet Dishcloth Written Instructions:

Repeat row 2 until work measures your desired height. I like the height to be slightly shorter than the width. You can do this, or work until it is square. Whatever you prefer.

Border: With wrong side of work facing, join new color with sc in any corner. Ch 1, sc in same corner. Turn work. Work crab stitch (see tutorial) down the side from left to right, until 1 st is left. *Turn. (Sc, ch 1, sc) in corner. Turn work again. Work crab stitch down another side from left to right. Rep from * two times more. After finishing the last side of the crab stitch, turn and join with sl st to the first regular sc.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Simple Dishcloth Tutorial

The crab stitch is worked in the context of the border of this dishcloth. But there are a few more steps involved. So let’s go step by step through the border.

Start by joining in any corner, making a sc, ch 1, sc. Turn, and then work in the crab stitch down one side until there is 1 stitch left (photo 1). Now, turn your work to make the next corner (photo 2).

Make your sc, ch 1, and sc in the corner. Then turn again. The reason we have to keep turning is because we’re working regular (forward) single crochet in the corners. But then we’re working crab stitches (backward sc) down the sides.

After flipping the dishcloth around, the right side will be facing again, and you’re ready to continue the crab stitch from left to right again!

Common Crochet Washcloth Questions

Do I need to use cotton yarn for washcloths?

Yes. Cotton is essential for washcloths. It absorbs water well, whereas acrylic does not.

How do I wash crochet washcloths?

Most of your standard washcloth yarns are able to be washed and dried as normal. The only thing to keep in mind is that cotton tends to shrink a bit after washing and drying. This is to be expected, and is apart of the normal process.

Do I need to block crochet washcloths?

No, generally not! washcloths get a great deal of use in water. There would be no point in blocking them, because the point of blocking is to get a project to retain a specific shape.

Conclusion

One thing I love about these baskets is how quickly they work up. I finished one in an afternoon! They are also easy to make while watching Netflix.

I used super bulky yarn for this pattern (in the number 6 category). The original yarn I used was Cascade Lana Grande. However, in the updated version I tested Wool Ease Thick & Quick, and that worked great too! Any super bulky yarn should work just fine.

Using Your Hanging Baskets

Once you make a few of these, you’ll be addicted to how well they can help you organize! I’ve used mine in both the kitchen AND the bathroom. They are best to hang on cupboard handles (or if you don’t have that, you could also install some hooks on the wall).

Not only can these crochet sets bring a cozy, welcoming feel to your space, but they also offer practical solutions for everyday needs. From soft, absorbent towels to stylish storage solutions, the possibilities are endless.

So let’s get right into it!

Step 1: Plan Your Bathroom Items

The first step is to take a step back and evaluate your guest bathroom. Think about what you want the environment to feel like for guests. What kind of hosting experience do you want to create?

Assess Your Bathroom Needs

First, consider essentials. What essentials are you missing? (Think crochet AND non-crochet here).

Then, think about: what luxurious crochet items can you add that you haven’t already made? These are items that might not be essential, but can certainly make for a better experience for guests.

Consider Your Bathroom Layout

One other thing to consider before starting is where you want to keep your spa sets. I have a large countertop, so I find it easiest to wrap all my items up together in a basket and put it in the center of the counter.

We’ll talk about this more in the styling section (and there I have an idea for a small set for those who might be low on counter space!)

Step 2: Choose patterns & Yarn

Now that you’ve thought about the experience you want to create, you can start choosing some patterns!

Of course, there are lots of bathroom patterns out there, but these are the ones I use:

Pattern Idea #1: Scrubbies

Round Face Scrubbies are an excellent way to exfoliate and/or take off makeup. I always make sure I have at least 1, if not 2 or 3, inside my spa sets.

Pattern Idea #2: Soap Savers

Next, Soap Savers are great. They are the perfect pretty way to store soap, AND when used in the shower they will “save” it from soap residue! This pattern uses simple stitches and works up in 20 minutes, or less if you’re a fast crocheter!

Pattern Idea #3: Bath Pouf

I’m working on a pattern of my own for this one, but for now check out this Bath Pouf from the Stitchin Mommy!

Pattern Idea #4: Washcloth

Crochet Washcloths are another excellent addition to a spa set. They are perfect for use in the shower, so you can consider whether you want to put this directly IN your spa basket, or put it in the shower so guests know how to use it.

Pattern Idea #5: Hand Towel

You can either put this one in the basket directly, or right off to the side: a crochet hand towel!

Pattern Idea #5: Storage

One last thing to think about is how you will STORE your spa items. Personally, I like to use wicker baskets – it’s just one less thing to crochet, and it looks pretty! I’ll show you how mine turned out soon.

Yarn Choice

A quick note on yarn choice: any of these bathroom items that will be getting wet (washcloth, soap saver, scrubby etc.) should be made from cotton yarn!

Do not use acrylic because the items will not be functional. Cotton is absorbent and perfect for bathroom items!

Step 3: Add Non-Crochet Items & Style

Now this is one of my favorite parts: don’t stop at crochet! In order to really make your spa basket complete, you’ll need to add other non-crocheted items too.

Non-Crochet Items to Add:

• Lotion
• Travel shampoo/conditioner
• Pads/tampons
• Bar of soap (inside the soap saver!)
• Small bags of Cotton balls
• Floss Picks
• Travel deoderant
• Q-tips/Cotton Swabs
• Foot Pumice Stone

I’m sure you can think of even more! But it’s up to you how “complete” you get with this. Choose a few items you think your guests will most likely need, or add the whole list!

Styling Idea #1: Small Square Basket

Once you’ve chosen your items you can start styling. Remember how I mentioned you can have a set on the counter even if it’s small? See below!

This set includes just a few items, but it still looks welcoming and has some essentials in it.

Styling Idea #2: Large Wicker Basket

If you want to add more items, a large wicker basket is the way to go. I actually used these baskets that were meant for the pantry (and didn’t write “flour” etc. on them lol!)

As you can see, you can layer the items in a way that they can all be seen pretty well. I definitely have room to add more essentials here as time goes on too!

The decoration you use next to your basket matters too. In most of these photos, you’ll see I use dried flowers in a small jar. I recommend either making neutral crochet items so the colors don’t clash, or using colors that correspond to your decor!

Neutral is also great because you can switch the decor up based on the season. Look how great this spa basket looks with a snowman decoration next to it!

Styling Idea #3: Long Basket

One last idea is to use a long oval or rectangle basket. This is great for laying the items out next to each other. The look is quite different than a large basket – I like it!

I got this basket from a thrift store (highly recommend looking there for baskets!!) but here is an alternative oval basket on Amazon.

Bathroom accessories are very easy to crochet. There are quite a few patterns out there, but most don’t show how to actually USE the finished designs in your space!

So to make this post, I set out to change that. I gathered all my ideas for bathroom decor, storage, etc. and went to work on a big photoshoot!

Most of these designs are being used IN my guest bathroom, exactly as you will see here. I hope this gives you inspiration to transform your space just as I did with mine!

Crochet Bathroom Ideas

So without further ado, let’s get straight to the bathroom inspiration.

1: Hanging Baskets

To start us off, a unique storage solution: Crochet Hanging Baskets! If you have a cupboard in your bathroom with handles, you might as well utilize it, right? Fill up the baskets with any bathroom essentials you can think of. This works great in my bathroom because the cupboard is right above the toilet – so no more having to go digging through drawers to find pads or other essentials.

2: Crochet Hand Towel

Add a hint of handmade coziness to your bathroom by providing guests with a crocheted hand towel! This farmhouse pattern can be used in the kitchen OR the bathroom. But I surely did fall in love with how it looked next to the sink in my guest bathroom.

3: Face Scrubby

Looking to have a relaxing spa day? Put a few face scrubbies in your bathroom! These can be used for exfoliation or makeup remover pads.

4: Loofah/Path Pouf

5: Crochet Soap Saver

One thing I always get tired of is having soap residue all over my shower. Soap Savers to the resuce! This easy 20 minute soap saver is a great stash buster if you have cotton yarn. Plus, it makes the bathroom look pretty!

6-8: Crochet Spa Set/Basket

Now once you have some individual items made like scrubbies and soap savers, you can start to style them to make guests feel more at home. I gathered up some wicker baskets I have to show you some inspiration, but feel free to get creative!

One thing I suggest is to have a spa set that includes MORE than just crochet. Below you can see a small square basket that includes a soap saver, scrubby, lotion, and pads.

If you have more guests and want to include more items, try using a bigger wicker basket like this:

It’s so convenient for guests to have all the essentials out where they can see them – so they don’t have to go rifling through drawers if they need something! Here’s one last styling idea:

9-11: Crochet Washcloths

Similar to scrubbies, crochet washcloths add a nice homey feel to your bathroom! I like to keep one inside the shower for guests. There are so many patterns to choose from, but here are a few favorites (these could be switched out based on the season/style of decor you’re going for at different times of year!)

12: Flowers Decor Idea

Now let’s get into bathroom DECOR. These items aren’t as much for function as they are for beauty. One of my favorite ideas is to have a small jar or vase with dried flowers (so you never have to change them out!) with a pretty crocheted coaster on the bottom. In this example I’m using my Sunflower Coaster.

13: Crochet Boho Coaster Decor Idea

For a more boho feel, use this mug rug pattern instead of the sunflower!

14-15: Seasonal Wall Hangings

If you have a lot of open wall space in your bathroom, wall hangings are great for decoration! I love using all my seasonal wall hangings and switching them out depending on the holiday.

Here’s my Cross Wall Hanging for Easter:

16-17: Cute Amigurumi

This idea is a little more unique, but I figured why not? Add some whimsical decor to your bathroom and include a cute little plush amigurumi! This would be cute for a kid’s bathroom especially.

I put my crocheted hippo in a wicker basket with other essentials like so:

And I thought a crochet whale would be adorable as well:

19. Toilet Runner

Here’s one last idea from Eye Love Knots: a crochet toilet runner! This adds a cute touch and then you can put other decorations or baskets of essentials on top.

This week, I was having two 10-year old girls over for crochet lessons. I started brainstorming a project we could make in our short time together – when you’re just starting I think it is such a boost of confidence to actually finish a cute little project!

Since Christmas is just around the corner, I came up with these gift ornaments. They’re perfect for beginners because they’re just a simple little rectangle with a bow.

Both 10 year old girls made this pattern successfully (in fact, their finished projects are the pictures you’re seeing in this post!)

So, I’m pretty confident you will be able to make them too.

There are ENDLESS color combos you can use for these little guys! Both the girls selected their colors all by themselves – didn’t they turn out great?

Without further ado, let’s get straight to the crochet pattern!

EASY Crochet Present Ornament Pattern

Materials:

• Any worsted weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors
• I used Red Heart Super Saver and Loops & Threads Impeccable
• H/8 5mm crochet hook
• Hot glue gun

Notes:

1. Chain 1 at beginning of rows does not count as a stitch

Measurements: 

Approx 1″ long by 2″ high

Abbreviations/Stitches Used (U.S.) 

Chain – ch

Single crochet – sc

Stitch(es) – st(s)

Written Instructions

Gift Box:

Ch 9.

Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and each ch across. Turn. (8 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn. (8 sc)

Repeat row 2 until you have a total of 6 or 7 rows (because tension varies, sometimes 6 rows looks big enough. Tighter crocheters might want to do 7 rows. Just go off of what looks best to you!)

Ribbon:

Take a long piece of yarn in a contrasting color. Tie a knot in the center, then tie a bow on top of that knot. Pull tight, adjust to get it exactly how you want it, trim the ends, etc.

Lastly, warm up a hot glue gun. Put a dot of hot glue on the back of the bow, then affix to the top of the present.

And that’s it! If you’re an experienced crocheter, these tiny crochet ornaments will take you probably 10 minutes to make.

If you’re a beginner, it may take a bit longer, but that is all part of the learning process! Either way I hope you love this quick little pattern.

I ended up making a whole forest of Christmas trees, and I can’t WAIT to display them (maybe on my mantle! We’ll see! I’m going to have to take more photos LOL).

Creating Tiered Crochet Trees

These crochet trees are very simple to make. I designed them using single crochets with simple increases, working from the point of the trees down.

However, they don’t stop with a simple cone shape. Instead, I wanted to create some tiered trees as well!

You’ll see that you can combine the different cone sizes to make a variety of tiered trees, which looks much like classic Christmas tree decorations.

Tabletop Crochet Christmas Trees for Decoration

Without further ado, let’s get right to the crochet pattern.

Video Tutorial:

Explanation: Make a cute forest of crocheted Christmas trees for your decor this year! These 3D crochet trees can be made in practically any size. They feature tiers that can be easily mixed and matched to make a variety of different looking trees!

Materials: 

• Red Heart Super Saver Yarn (100% Acrylic, 364 yds / 333 m, 7 oz / 198 g) 1 skein in your desired green color 
• You can use any worsted weight yarn, but a stiffer “value” yarn works best so the trees hold their shape. 
• 4.5mm crochet hook (or adjust based on your tension)
• Yarn needle

Gauge: 

Height after 10 rounds: approx. 2”

Exact gauge is not critical for this pattern. I provide this measurement as a guide if you would like your trees to turn out approximately the same size as mine.

Notes:

1. Trees will be worked in different sized tiers that are sewn together. Each tier is made from the top down, in joined rounds. This is to keep the bottom fully even. There will be a seam across the back of the trees.
2. Pattern will begin with the largest tree tier; this is the basic repeating pattern that will be used in all tiers. From there the pattern will specify how many rounds you need to do to get the other sized tiers.
3. Ch 1 at beginning of rounds does not count as a single crochet.
4. You will notice the second round specifies to pull the joining slip stitch tight. This is because it will help the joining area look neater. Continue to pull the slip stitch tight for all the rounds.

Measurements/Sizing: 

Small 3-tier tree: 4.5” tall

Large 3-tier tree: 7” tall

Small 1 tier tree: 2.75” tall

Medium 1 tier tree: 3.5” tall

Large 1 tier tree: 5.5” tall

There are patterns for 6 different sized tiers included. These will be used to make the 1-tier and 3-tier trees. This is illustrated in the photo below.

Stack the tiers together with tier #3 on top. Take a long piece of yarn (I like to use the end from the first round of the bottom tier) and weave it through all 3 tiers. Do this a few times back and forth to secure. Weave in all ends.

SMALL 3-TIERED TREE:

• Make Tier #4 (bottom tier)
• Make Tier #5 (middle tier)
• Make Tier #6 (top tier)

Conclusion

Many Christmas tree squares on the internet are granny square tree squares. While I do have a granny themed Christmas pattern coming soon (keep a lookout) I decided to go a different direction with these squares: tapestry crochet!

That’s right, these squares are worked in all single crochet stitches, and the trees are formed through colorwork alone.

I’m quite pleased with the outcome – I hope you are too!

Crochet Tree Square Pattern

Christmas always comes before you know it! Get started on a quick Christmas crochet project early and make these cute tree trivets. They work great for holding hot pans, or you could even sew a bunch of squares together into a blanket!

• I Love This Cotton Yarn (100% Cotton, 180 yds / 164.6 m, 3.5 oz / 1559 g) 1 skein Parchment (color A), 1 skein Brown (color B),  and 1 skein Sage (color C). Feel free to substitute other cotton yarns.
• G/3.5mm crochet hook (or adjust based on your tension)
• Yarn needle

Gauge is only necessary if you would like your trivet to turn out the exact same size as mine.
