Crochet Face Scrubbies – Free Pattern With Video Tutorial & Printable Packaging

Personally, I have never done much as far as skin care goes. However, when I started designing crochet patterns for Operation Christmas Child, I began to realize the usefulness of crochet scrubbies!

These scrubbies in particular would go great in a 10-14 year old girl’s shoebox.

Now, before we get into the free crochet pattern, let’s cover some important details about crocheting face scrubbies.

Are crochet face scrubbies good to use?

I’ve seen this question asked quite a lot…are face scrubbies actually helpful? And the answer is, yes, absolutely!

As I mentioned earlier, I’ve never had much of a skin care routine, but that might be changing now that I have these!

Here are a few benefits of crochet face scrubbies:

You can’t really go wrong with these scrubbies! You can also use them alongside any of your favorite self care items—like DIY salt scrubs!

If you’ve ever used face pads or makeup removing wipes, you know that they go FAST. But when you crochet your own face scrubbies, you can use them over and over again.

Besides that, they are also SO quick to make. I whipped up these scrubbies in under 20 minutes, and I bet you can too!

The best yarn for Face Scrubbies

When I first started crocheting, I remember making a washcloth for my grandma out of acrylic yarn. If you’ve ever tried that before, maybe you’ve noticed that it didn’t work very well when you tried to use it.

The reason for that is because any kind of scrubbie or washcloth needs to be made with cotton yarn!

Cotton yarn is breathable, durable, and absorbs water just right!

I have two favorite cotton yarns for scrubbies:

• Lily sugar and cream

This is the yarn I personally used for this design. It’s super affordable and holds up well!

• We Crochet Dishie

While I haven’t personally used this yarn, I have heard lots of people raving about it! It is especially a great option if you need to buy yarn online.

Make Your Own Face Scrubbie Packaging

If there’s anything that spices up crocheted face scrubbies, it’s a label! I created a free printable that you can use to make your very own packaging.

When I was looking into making this, I found that a some people used a cricut machine to make their labels. However, personally I wanted to a go a lot more simple than that.

There’s just a few steps to making your own DIY packaging with this printable:

Step 1: Download this PDF here

Step 2: Print out the labels

Step 3: Use a paper cutter (or scissors) to cut along the lines

Step 4: Wrap around a stack of scrubbies (3-4) and fasten with tape in the back!

Using Puff Stitches in Scrubbies

This design features the puff stitch, which gives the scrubbies some very nice texture.

Unlike other patterns I’ve seen out there, I chose not to make mine entirely out of puff stitches. Instead, they are a focal point of just one of the rounds.

That said, you’ll definitely need to know how to crochet the puff stitch! I’ve embeded a YouTube video below (in the special stitches section!)

Materials:

• Worsted Weight Cotton yarn
• I used Lily Sugar and Cream
• I/5.5mm crochet hook 
• Yarn needle

Notes:

1. Ch 1 at beginning of rounds does NOT count as a sc
2. Ch 2 at beginning of rounds does NOT count as a dc

Measurements: 

Approximately 3.5” in diameter

Abbreviations/Stitches Used (U.S.) 

Chain – ch

Single crochet – sc

Double crochet – dc

Front post double crochet – fpdc

Repeat – rep

Round(s) – rnd(s)

Skip – sk

Space(s) – sp(s)

Chain space(s) – ch-sp(s)

Stitch(es) – st(s)

Beginning – beg

Special Stitch:

Puff stitch (puff st): YO, insert hook into indicated st. YO, pull up a loop. (YO, insert hook into same st, YO, pull up a loop) 2 times. YO, pull through 6 loops on hook. YO, pull through last 2 loops on hook.

Instructions:

Ch 5. Join with a sl st to first ch to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, 10 sc in ring. Join with sl st to first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in same st as sl st. Ch 1, puff st in next dc. *Ch 1, 2 dc in next st, ch 1, puff st in next st. Rep from * around. Ch 1, join with sl st to beg dc. (5 puff st, 10 dc)

Rnd 3: Ch 2, *fpdc around next dc, ch 1, fpdc around next dc. Dc in next ch-sp, dc in next puff st, dc in next ch-sp. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to beg dc. (10 fpdc, 15 dc, 5 ch-sps)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as sl st. 2 sc in next ch-sp, sc in next fpdc. Sc in next dc, 2 sc in next dc, sc in next dc.*Sc in next fpdc, 2 sc in next ch-sp, sc in next fpdc. Sc in next dc, 2 sc in next dc, sc in next dc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to beg sc. (40 sc)

Fasten off and weave in all ends. 

How to Use Your New Face Scrubbies

It should be fairly simple to get using your new scrubbies! Put them to work immediately by washing your face with them. A great routine would be using them each morning and night! You could even try removing makeup with them.

If you do use them regularly, the good news is they are easily washable! Just throw them in the washer and they’ll be ready to reuse in no time.

That said, always make sure to check your yarn label to make sure your choice is washable & dryable. You should be safe with Lily Sugar & Cream yarn!
