Unique Crochet Flower Coaster Pattern (Free!)
A beautiful, unique flower crochet coaster is perfect for brightening up your home. This pattern features 6 petals and a pretty two-toned design that is endlessly customizable with different colors! Scroll down for the free crochet pattern, or get a print-optimized PDF for a low cost right here.

Summertime is truly the perfect season to make yourself some pretty flower coasters like these.
What I love about this pattern is that it is very customizable. It is not designed to be one particular flower, so you can customize the colors however you’d like (unlike a sunflower coaster, which clearly has 2 colors you have to use).
If you want it to look more like a daisy, use white and yellow like I did. If you want it to be more generic, use yellow in the center and do as many contrasting colors as you’d like for the petals.

Photo Tutorial
This coaster pattern is pretty straightforward, but let’s go step by step through the different joining methods used in the color changes.
Joining with a standing double crochet:
If you do the color changes as written in the main pattern, you’ll need to fasten off the first color after round 3. Then, join with a standing double crochet stitch.
To make a standing double crochet, first make a slip knot on your hook and yarn over (top left photo). Then, insert your hook into any stitch of the round (top right photo).
Next, pull up a loop and complete the double crochet like normal (bottom photos).

Joining with a standing half double crochet:
If you use the alternate color change instructions, you’ll be fastening off the first color after round 2. Then, joining with a standing half double crochet.
For the standing hdc, the process is pretty much the same. Follow the first two photos of the previous stitch (Make slip knot, YO, insert hook). Then, just yarn over and pull through all 3 loops to form a half double crochet.

Flower Coaster Questions
Can I make these coasters in one color? What about 3?
Yes! You can make these coasters in a single color or multiple. It is all up to your preference. The rounds have been written with my color changes in mind though. You may have to adjust as necessary if you’re changing at a different spot.
Can I make these coasters in acrylic yarn?
Yes, you can make flower coasters with acrylic yarn. However, for these particular coasters I believe cotton looks better. Try it both ways and see what you prefer! The main benefit to cotton (other than looks) is that it is more absorbent than acrylic.
How much yarn is needed for a coaster?
Not much at all! Of course, it always depends on the yarn and pattern you use. For this pattern, you can make several sets of coasters from

Flower coasters are easy to crochet and beautiful to have in your home. Make a set for yourself, or give them away as gifts! Friends and family are sure to love these coasters. I hope you loved the pattern as much as I loved designing it!
