If you’ve been crocheting along with us, I know you’re probably anxious to finish your mandala! The Mandala Pullover color work is so much fun. Last week we got halfway done with our mandalas, so this week we get to finish them up!

Just a reminder, I have a beginner’s guide to color work that will explain everything you need to know about your mandala. Be sure to check it out if you’re struggling!

If this is the first time you’re seeing this pattern, be sure to first read the other posts I’ve published about the CAL. You won’t be able to make the pattern starting from here, since it is split into 5 different posts covering the yarn and sizing, plus separate stages of the pattern.

A new crochet stitch tutorial here on the blog: let’s learn how to crochet the Triple Ridge stitch! This is a super easy stitch pattern that uses a whole bunch of back loop rows to create unique ridges!

Whew! I can hardly believe it is November. We are getting so close to the end of 2019, and therefore the end of the Desert Blossom Stitch Along! It is crazy to me how fast this year has gone.

In case you’re wondering, this stitch for today is actually included in the October bundle. I know it’s confusing, but basically, I got super behind last month, and since there are 5 weeks in November, I decided to postpone things for a week. So next Saturday the official November stitches will be starting!

For now though, we can enjoy this super simple pattern: the Triple Ridge Stitch!

So, let’s talk about this stitch a little bit. As I said before, it uses the back loop technique. However, it uses it in a unique way, because we’ll do different size stitches (tr, sc, etc) to give the ridges different heights! It’s super simple in that there is no specific stitch multiple—you can make a foundation row with ANY number of chains/fsc.

I am excited to share a new color work stitch pattern with you today! This stitch uses post stitches and color work to create a neat effect. Be sure to read more to find my inspiration, special features, and of course how to crochet the Triangle Post Stitch!

All right, so let’s learn a bit about how this stitch came about! I first came up with a variation of this stitch when I was swatching for a design for the I Like Crochet magazine! You may remember I recently had a pattern published in their magazine—the Timberlane Cardigan! Well, this stitch uses the same technique as that cardigan does; I just made the triangles smaller!

Overall, I love making this stitch because of how much the triangles POP! The post stitches help create this effect, but two contrasting colors help accentuate the effect. I think this stitch would look awesome in a ton of different color combinations!

If you make this stitch, I would love to see YOUR color combination! Be sure to post pictures and tag me @desertblossomcrafts on Instagram, or post the pictures in my Facebook group!

Stitch Pattern is a multiple of 7+4

Ch 3 at beginning of rows counts as dc

Carry both colors throughout the whole square. (Make sure to watch the video for more help with the color changes).

MATERIALS:

You can potentially use ANY yarn and hook for this stitch. However, here’s what I used:

Worsted Weight yarn (I used Sugarbush Bold yarn, but you can use any worsted weight!)

H/8 (5mm) crochet hook

The last stitch for September…let’s learn together how to crochet the Windowpane Stitch! Read on to find out the unique way this stitch forms…I know it looks similar to the Waffle Stitch, but don’t worry, it is actually very different!

As mentioned, I know at first glance this stitch looks like the Waffle Stitch. HOWEVER, don’t worry! Although it looks similar, is is made in a different way. While the Waffle stitch uses fpdc or fptr to create the “squares”, this stitch uses fpsc and regular dc! Also, the backside looks very different from the back of the waffle stitch. Intrigued yet? Read on to find out more about the Windowpane stitch and how to make it!

I first made this stitch as I was experimenting with post stitch single crochet. This isn’t a stitch you see as often—usually, people use the front post double or triple crochet. However, the fpsc can be useful at times too! It is made in the exact same way as any other post stitch. You simply work a sc, but around the post of a stitch rather than the top loops. Don’t worry, it’s not hard!

Want to print this pattern easily? There is an option besides just viewing it here, and it comes with more stitch patterns! The PDF version of this stitch pattern includes all the other stitches in September—it can be found HERE. This PDF is inexpensive and ad-free.

Finally, the day we’ve all been waiting for…the last part of the #midnightcal! Come see the final crochet instructions to complete your Midnight Tops!

In case you haven’t heard, the past 2 weeks we’ve been crocheting along to make to make the Midnight Top, a stylish summer crochet top! I have had SO much fun seeing all the work-in-progress photos in my Facebook Group—which, by the way, is the community for the CAL, so be sure to join it!

If this is the first time you’re seeing this post, be sure to first read the Intro post, and the Part 1 post. There you’ll find all the information you need to make your top, including detailed information about yarn and sizing.

Here we will just cover some quick references (see below) but the other posts cover lots more details.

THE MIDNIGHT TOP: FREE CROCHET ALONG PART 2

Note: this is PART 2 of the Midnight Top pattern. If you’re just starting your top, be sure to view the post below.

ABBREVIATIONS/STITCHES USED (U.S. TERMINOLOGY):

Foundation Single Crochet – fsc

Slip Stitch – sl st

Single crochet – sc

Double crochet – dc

Repeat – rep

Round – rnd

Skip – sk

Stitch(es) – st(s)

Space – sp

SPECIAL STITCHES:

Shell (sh): (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in indicated stitch.

SIZING

The finished bust size of the top (as long as you obtain gauge) is: 33 (39, 45, 50, 56)”

You can go for a few different looks as far as this top goes. If you want a loose fitting top, then choose a size that is 2-3” larger than your bust. However, if you want a more fitted top, go for either a size that is the same as your bust, or go for negative ease by choosing a size 1-2” smaller than your bust.

For reference, I chose to make mine with 3” of positive ease. My bust is 30”, and I made a size Small.

GAUGE:

11 dc = 4”

5 rows of dc = 3”

NOTES

Rnd 2: Ch 2 (does NOT count as dc), dc in same st as sl st. Dc in next dc. Dc in next 3 (4, 5, 6, 7) chains. Dc in all dc until next set of chains. Dc in next 3 (4, 5, 6, 7) chains. Dc in remaining dcs around. Join with sl st to beg ch 2. 92 (108, 124, 140, 156) dc.

Rnd 3: Ch 2, dc in same st as sl st. Dc in ea dc around. Join with a sl st to beg dc.

PIN THIS POST TO YOUR PINTEREST BOARDS HERE

The Yarn

The yarn used for this top is one of my new favorites…Lion Brand Jeans! Why do I love this yarn? It is worsted weight, but it is the softest, most amazing worsted weight I’ve ever used, especially for an acrylic yarn! Even though it’s worsted, it still makes for an airy, breathable summer top.

You can order your yarn right now by clicking HERE! Note: Lion Brand has 2 different listings for this yarn. The more neutral colors can be found here. But there are also some brighter colors, which can be found here. All of them would make amazing tops!

How much yarn will you need? That depends on your size. This top is available in sizes S-2XL.

Yarn needed: 2 (3, 3, 3, 4) skeins of Jeans Yarn.

Follow the steps below to choose your size…

The finished bust size of the top (as long as you obtain gauge) is: 33 (39, 45, 50, 56)”

You can go for a few different looks as far as this top goes. If you want a loose fitting top, then choose a size that is 2-3” larger than your bust. However, if you want a more fitted top, go for either a size that is the same as your bust, or go for negative ease by choosing a size 1-2” smaller than your bust.

For reference, I chose to make mine with 3” of positive ease. My bust is 30”, and I made a size Small.

The Community

One of my favorite things about CAL’s is the community that gets built during them. For this CAL, there’s a few things you need to know about the community aspect.

The main place we’ll talk about our tops is in my Facebook Group! Here we can share photos, ask questions, etc. Be sure to join HERE if you haven’t already!

Secondly, I’d love it if you guys share your photos on Instagram! Be sure to use the hashtag #midnightcal in your posts, and tag me @desertblossomcrafts so I can see!

Now that we’ve covered the pattern, yarn, and community, let’s get on to the schedule for the CAL.

Midnight Top Crochet Along

The crochet along spans 3 weeks total. Here is how I have everything scheduled:

And finally, join my Facebook group!

This week you will make your gauge swatch, and then begin the yoke of the top.

Week 3: Part 2 of pattern will be released on the Blog. Join the armholes of your top and then make the body.

I hope you guys are as excited about this CAL as I am! I can’t wait to see all your tops in progress. Don’t forget to join my Facebook group so we can all encourage each other.
