40 Crochet Blanket Square Patterns – The Friendship Blanket CAL
Looking for crochet blanket square patterns? The Friendship Blanket CAL has over 30 9″ squares included, and you can crochet-along to make it!
Ok, so I have a confession to make. I love planning, but sometimes, I suck at it.
The problem is, I have so many ideas running around inside my head at once, that sometimes I forget to organize them! 😂
Yes, and that definitely happened at the end of last year. I planned a Crochet Stitch Along for January of 2021…completely forgetting that I had signed up to participate in another similar CAL! 🤦♀️
So today, I want to tell you about the Friendship Blanket CAL…not to be confused with my Closed Stitch CAL going on right now!
Two Stitch Alongs – Which one to choose?
While I have 2 CAL’s to tell you about today, they (thankfully) do have some differences that will help you choose which one to participate in.
My Closed Stitch Pattern CAL is very relaxed. It is not intended for blanket making (although it is entirely possible to make a blanket from the stitches.
On the OTHER hand, the Friendship Blanket CAL is a bit more structured and more rigorous. It includes 40 square patterns, specifically designed with a blanket in mind.
I would love for you to participate in one of these CAL’s—but I do recommend you choose one or the other.
If you do want a more relaxed CAL and decide to join the Closed Stitch Pattern Crochet-Along, make sure to come read the details here.
BUT, if you want to actually make a full blanket with lots and lots of squares, keep reading! The rest of this post will be about the Friendship Blanket CAL.
How do you crochet a square blanket?
Quite simply, you make a bunch of squares, and you join them together! It’s really not hard to CROCHET…but it can be hard to finish 😆I haven’t made a lot of blankets because I always have that problem!
That is why I love the friendship blanket crochet-along. 28 designers have come together, and we each designed one square for the blanket! I am so excited to be apart of this CAL.
This is the blanket we will be making:

How Many Squares do you need for a crochet blanket?
That depends on how big the square is, and how big you would like the blanket to be. You can really make any size you would like as long as you calculate it beforehand!
For this specific CAL, the squares will measure 9″ wide and 9″ high. There will be 40 square patterns total, with 35 needed for the project (so you can pick and choose which ones you want to make!
Get all the squares patterns RIGHT NOW
The squares will be releasing every Friday, Sunday, and Wednesday until mid-april. BUT…if you want to get them all right now, you can grab the ad-free, PDF bundle!

My Square Pattern
Below you can see the Little Angels Square, which is the square I will be contributing to the blanket! It uses my classic pansy stitch.

My square pattern will not be released until March (if you want access to it right now, you’ll have to grab the PDF bundle).
