10 Gorgeous Purple Yarns You Need to Try
Are you looking for the perfect purple yarn for your next crochet or knitting project? I’ve rounded up a few of my absolute favorites and I am excited to show them to you today!
When it comes to purple yarn, there are so many lovely shades and options out there. Royal purples, lilac purples, reddish and blueish purples…and the list goes on!
One of my favorite things about purple yarn is the amazing variety of projects you can make with it. Personally, I have crocheted purple blankets, scarves, hats, and more.
Some other unique ideas are:
- Crochet/knit flowers like lavendar and lilacs
- Animals like hippos or butterflies
- Purple blankets and afghans
Whether you have a project idea in mind already or not, these purple yarns are sure to spark your crochet/knit inspiration!
Where can I buy purple yarn?
Different shades of purple yarn can be found at pretty much any yarn retailer! I have bought it at Joann’s & Michaels, as well as online stores like Knit Picks, Amazon, and Lion Brand.
10 Beautiful Purple Yarns
Are you ready to see all the lovely yarns? Let’s get right into the list!
1. Light Purple Red Heart Yarn
One of my favorite purple yarns is in the classic Red Heart Super Saver line! Light purple is truly a beautiful color, and this colorway, called Orchid, hits the nail on the head.
2. Bernat Crushed Velvet Yarn
Purple velvet yarns are another favorite of mine! Bernat Crushed Velvet does a great job with this multicolor purple colorway. It comes with 300 grams of #5 bulky weight yarn.
3. Dark Purple Yarn
Sometimes you just need a good DARK purple yarn for a project. If that’s what you’re looking for, Lion Brand Basic Stitch has a beautiful one. It is also anti-pilling and machine washable!
4. Variegated Purple Yarn
There are times when ONE purple simply isn’t enough, wouldn’t you agree! Variegated purple yarns are a great way to add an extra touch of uniqueness to your project. Red Heart Soft has a great color called “Plummy”.
5. Bernat Softee Chunky Yarn
Chunky purple yarns are great for projects that you need to work up a lot FASTER! Bernat Softee Chunky’s Lilac colorway is in the #6 weight category. Isn’t it pretty? I just love the twist on this one.
6. Neon Purple Yarn
Go big or go home – a bright neon purple will add extra spark to your project! This colorway of Caron Simply Soft is called “Grape”. It is designed to be brighter than regular Caron yarns!
7. Royal Purple Yarn
On the opposite side of the spectrum, we have the ROYAL purple color! I have always loved how purple is the color of royalty, so this shade is extra pretty to me. Cascade 220 Superwash Wool comes in this beautiful royal color and it is extra soft too (yes, I’ve tried it!)
8. Purple Scrubby Yarn
Next up, a more unique type of purple yarn – scrubby yarn! If you want to make purple dishcloths, scrubbies, etc. this Red Heart Yarn would be perfect. It is called “Jelly” which I think is very fitting, considering it has several shades of purple included, along with white!
9. Blue-Purple Yarn
Since purple is a mix between red and blue, it is obviously possible to have purple yarns that are more on the red side or more on the blue side. If you need a blueish-purple yarn for a project, check out Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo in the colorway Amythest!
10. Purple Yarn with Metallic Thread
Last (but definitely not least) if you need an extra-elegant purple yarn, you’re definitely going to want to check out Caron Simply Soft Party! This yarn has metallic thread running through it to make it perfect for sophisticated-looking projects.
Conclusion
Purple yarns come in a variety of differnet shades and colorways. From royal purples to lilac purples, there is something for every purple-lover! I hope you found a gorgeous new yarn to try!
