Women’s Chunky Crochet Scarf Pattern

There are many advantages to making a chunky crochet scarf. First of all, using a chunky yarn gives you an extra thick crochet scarf.

Extra thickness = extra warmth and extra coziness! This scarf is so squishy and almost cushiony due to the yarn and stitch. I’m going to be wearing it all winter long—the wide variety of colors in the yarn pair with a lot of my tops, which is great.

And as you can see, I was wearing it outside in the snow. The truth is it was keeping me pretty warm for the photoshoot even though I wasn’t wearing a heavy coat!

Choosing a Bulky Yarn for a chunky crochet scarf

The yarn I used for this scarf is We Crochet’s new Alla Prima yarn. This is my new favorite bulky yarn for scarves. It is super thick and soft, and the colors are absolutely gorgeous!

This chunky crochet scarf is perfect for beginners because it uses such an easy stitch pattern. But the thing is, it doesn’t look simple—and that’s because the colors in the yarn do a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to the finished look.

While you can use other super chunky yarn to make this yarn, I definitely recommend Alla Prima. It is a single-ply yarn, which means it doesn’t have any twist to it. This makes it fluffier and softer than a lot of other bulky yarns.

What is the best stitch for a chunky crochet scarf?

That’s a great question! For oversized crochet scarves, it is usually best to stick with a simpler stitch.

The stitch we’ll be using for this scarf is the Moss Stitch, which is pretty well known and pretty simple to recreate. (But don’t worry, if you’re new to it there will be lots of photos and video to help you out!)

Of course, other stitches will work for chunky scarves too—here are 10 of my favorite stitches for scarves.

Explanation: Meet the Aurora Scarf, a chunky crochet scarf made from a gorgeous yarn! This colorful scarf has both warmth and style put together into one design. Best of all, it is made from an easy stitch and it can be finished in just a few hours!

Materials:

• We Crochet Alla Prima (100% Merino Wool, 52 yds 47 m, 4 oz / 120 g) 4 hanks
• Or approximately 200 yards super bulky yarn (single ply will resemble photos best)
• L/8mm crochet hook 
• Yarn needle
• Sharp scissors

Notes:

1. Starting ch 1 at the beginning of rows does not count as a stitch.
2. Scarf is worked width-wise, back and forth in rows, with fringe attached at the end.

Measurements/Sizing: 

5” wide, 80” long including fringe – but easily adjustable

Note: Most of the time I don’t make my scarves this long, but if you want to wear the scarf like I styled it in the photos, it helps to have an extra long scarf. Adjust length depending on the style you like best. 

Abbreviations/Stitches Used (U.S.) 

Chain – ch

Single crochet – sc

Repeat – rep

Stitch(es) – st(s)

Space(s) – sp(s)

Skip – sk

Bulky Yarn crochet Scarf Instructions:

Ch 12. (To adjust width, start with any multiple of 2 chs).

Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook. (Ch 1, sk 1 ch, sc in next ch) 5x. Turn. (6 sc, 5 ch)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc. Sc in ch-sp. (Ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next ch-sp) 4x. Sc in last sc. Turn. (7 sc, 4 ch)

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first sc. (Ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next ch-sp) 4x. Ch 1, sk next sc, sc in last sc. Turn. (6 sc, 5 ch)

Rep rows 2-3 until you have a total of 125 rows (or to desired length—you can end on a row 2 or 3, it doesn’t matter). 

Last Row: Ch 1, sc in each sc and each ch-sp across. (11 sc)

Finishing:

• Fasten off and weave in ends. 
• Attach fringe: I used only 1 piece of 14” yarn per fringe, folded in half and attached (see tutorial on next page). Attach one fringe per stitch, for a total of 11. Trim to an even length.

Below you can see what Row 1 will look like when done, and also what it means to insert your hook in the chain space.

On the top, see what it looks like making the last single crochet of a row (for odd numbered rows). Then, what it looks like once 3 rows are done. 

To make the fringe, follow the 5 steps below. Make sure to start with the right side of the work facing you. Fold the yarn strand in half, then pull it through a stitch on the end of the scarf (step 2). Then yarn over and pull both ends of the fringe through the working loop (steps 3-4). Note that I find it helpful to hold the 2 ends of the fringe in my left hand as if I’m actually crocheting—but this is not required. Do what is most comfortable to you.

FAQ

How much yarn do you need for a chunky scarf?

Usually you will need more skeins than you expect to crochet a chunky scarf. Because chunky yarn is so thick, balls or skeins typically come with less yardage than other yarn weights. I used 3 full hanks of Alla Prima, plus part of a 4th hank, in this particular pattern.

Why is a chunky scarf so much faster to make?

Though you may need to spend more, a bulky weight scarf is a dream to crochet because of how fast it goes! Because the yarn is so much bigger, your stitches are also bigger—which equals less stitches overall compared to working with smaller yarns.

What is the difference between chunky and super chunky?

There are three categories that are considered “chunky” types of yarns, so definitely look out for this when choosing yarn for your scarf. #5 Bulky weight is the “thinnest” chunky yarn. #6 weight is considered super bulky (which is the weight of the yarn I used here). Then there is also #7 weight, which is considered jumbo yarn.

Obviously you’ll get very different results with a chunky scarf depending on if you use #5, #6, or #7 weight. Make sure you pay careful attention to the details in any pattern you choose so you get the right weight.

Stitches To know When Making an Easy Crochet Cowl

If you are beginner at crocheting, this cowl will allow you to practice 4-5 basics stitches. (One of them is optional). Below you can find short explanations of each stitch, with links for more information if you haven’t learned the stitches yet.

Chain Stitch:

1. Make a slip knot on your hook.
2. Hold the hook in your right hand and the yarn in your left hand using your chosen method.
3. Yarn over (put your hook under the yarn so that the yarn goes OVER the hook) and pull through the slip knot.

The chain is the first stitch you will ever learn when crocheting. Here is a video tutorial for making a chain.

Foundation Single Crochet Stitch:

This is an optional stitch that we will use at the beginning of the cowl, to form the first row/round. It is a method that makes a chain row AND a single crochet row at the exact same time. Video tutorial here.

Slip Stitch:

We will use this stitch to join our rounds together. It is very easy to do:

1. Insert your hook into desired stitch (do not yarn over first).
2. Yarn over, pull through the stitch AND the first loop on your hook.

Single Crochet Stitch:

One of the most basic crochet stitches. It is very easy as well. Follow the instructions below or watch this video.

1. Insert your hook into desired stitch (do not yarn over first).
2. Yarn over, pull through the stitch.
3. Yarn over, pull through the 2 loops on your hook.

Half Double Crochet Stitch:

This is another basic stitch that requires just one extra step from the single crochet. More information can be found here.

Explanation: Are you a beginner at crochet, but you still want to make a unique looking cowl? If so, the Lilac Cowl is for you! This easy crochet cowl pattern uses just two different stitches and is perfect for a cold winter day accessory. 

Materials:

• We Crochet Chroma Twist Bulky Yarn (70% Superwash Wool, 30% Nylon, 127 yds / 116 m, 3.5 oz / 100 g) 2 balls in the color Hollyhock
• Or any bulky weight yarn you have in your stash
• J/6mm crochet hook 
• Yarn needle

Gauge:

Not necessary, see finished size measurements. It is too much trouble to make a gauge swatch since this pattern is worked in the round and is extremely easy to adjust. For sizing, follow adjusting instructions in notes.

Notes:

1. Ch 1 at beginning of rounds does NOT count as a sc OR a hdc.
2. All of the sc rounds in this cowl are worked into the 3rd loop of hdc. If you are unfamiliar with this hook placement, see the photo tutorial on page 3 or the video here.
3. This cowl is very easily adjusted. You can use ANY number of stitches to adjust the circumference in the beginning round (no multiple is necessary). I recommend trying it on after the first few rounds to make sure you like the circumference. Then, to adjust the height you simply add or subtract rounds (see the end of the pattern for more detail). 
4. Count your stitches at the end of each round to make sure you have the right amount. The joining area can look a little confusing, so counting the stitches ensures you haven’t accidentally increased or decreased.

Fsc 75. Being careful not to twist, join with a sl st to first fsc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in the 3rd loop of every hdc around, join with a sl st to first sc. TURN. (75 sc)

Rep rows 3-4 until you have a total of 20 rnds, OR until the cowl reaches your desired size. Make sure to try it on as you go to see if you like the fit!

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Tutorial:

The following photos show what it looks like whenever you make a hdc round. Then, the bottom right shows where the 3rd loop of the hdc is.

Work single crochet stitches into the 3rd loops of the hdc. Keep in mind that when you work into the 3rd loop, it may be a little loose. You don’t want to pull on it to make it even looser than it already is.

FAQ on Crochet Cowls

Let’s finish off this post by talking about common questions people have when it comes to crocheting cowls!

How much yarn do I need to crochet a cowl?

The amount of yarn you need for a cowl depends on the pattern you’re using as well as the yarn you’re using. However, all the cowls I’ve made tend to need 2 skeins of yarn total. I’ve gotten away with just 1 skein before, but the cowl is usually less full than I’d like it to be.

What are the different ways you can make a cowl?

There are actually a few different methods for crocheting cowls! My personal favorite is the method used in this pattern – making a round, and working around and around until you like the size.

However, another very common method is making a wide, long rectangle and seaming the ends together.

How do you finish a crochet cowl?

If you’re using the “round” method for a cowl, finishing is very simple. Just join your last round with a slip stitch and fasten off. However, for seamed crochet cowls, you will have to pick a joining method for the ends. You can crochet the ends together, or you can use a standard seam, like the whipstitch or invisible seam.

What is a good length for a cowl?

The length of your cowl will depend on your preference, as well as the style you’re making. Some cowls wrap around twice; these obviously need to be much longer. For single wrap cowls, I find that 25-30″ around works well.

What is a crochet infinity scarf?

Now, let’s answer some common questions about infinity scarves so we’re on the same page. A crochet infinity scarf is basically just a regular rectangular scarf sewn together into a tube. They can be made either in rows and sewn together, OR they can be worked in the round. For this pattern, we will be using the former method.

How long should a crochet Infinity Scarf be?

The finished length of your crocheted infinity scarf can be anything you’d like! A standard length for crochet infinity scarves is around 60″. If you follow gauge in this pattern, your scarf should turn out at 58″. However, I also include instructions for adjusting the length, so you can make it to fit you perfectly.

Chunky & Thick Crochet Infinity Scarf

One of my favorite features of this pattern is how thick and chunky it is…even though it just uses worsted weight yarn! We achieve this result by making the rectangle a lot thicker than a regular scarf. Then, when you double it over, it forms a lot more layers which makes it feel much bigger!

Explanation: Meet the Snowbank Infinity Scarf! This scarf features sections of beautiful puff stitches along with sections of simple single crochet. Made with a thick, soft yarn, it makes for the perfect cozy accessory on a blustery day!

Materials:

• We Crochet City Tweed Aran Yarn: (55% Merino Wool, 25% Superfine Alpaca, 20% Donegal Tweed) 164 yds / 150 m, 3.5 oz / 100 g) 4 balls Snowbank
• Or approximately 600 yards of heavy worsted weight yarn/aran yarn
• I/5.5mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle

Finished Measurements:

Gauge:

Rows 2-10 = 10.5” wide by 4.5” long

I did a total of 117 rows for an approximate length of 58”.

How to end a crochet infinity scarf:

Now that your rectangle is all done, it is time to finish everything up. Ending off an infinity scarf is not hard to do! We just need to sew the ends together.

Follow these 2 simple steps to finish your scarf:

1. Match up both ends of the scarf with right sides together
2. Slip stitch the ends together all the way across. You can also use your preferred sewing method, but I did it this way so I would have less ends to weave in.

More Questions About Crocheting Infinity Scarves

How does an infinity scarf work?

So now you’ve finished your infinity scarf, but maybe you’re wondering how to wear it. Personally, my favorite way to wear an infinity scarf is to wrap the loop around my head twice. To do this, simply place the loop around your head once, grab the bottom, and loop it up and around your head again. Then, adjust as needed until it looks nice.

What is the difference between a cowl and infinity scarf?

Generally, a cowl is only wrapped around the head once, whereas infinity scarves are long enough to wrap around twice. Cowls may also be wider than infinity scarves.

How many skeins of yarn do you need to crochet an infinity scarf?

It really depends on the pattern and yarn weight you are using. As you saw in this pattern, you need 4 balls at a 100 grams each. That is because this pattern is for a wider infinity scarf with yarn-eating stitches (the puff stitch, LOL). Other simpler crochet infinity scarves will not need quite so much yarn.

Rustic Lace Scarf Inspiration

This scarf was inspired by a cabin, rustic outdoorsy type feel. I wanted it to have a woodsy vibe. Something perfect for exploring (like hiking the Smoky Mountains and other national parks on a cool day!)

I think the yarn colors and stitch really helped with that, don’t you think? We have a soft light brown, a doe brown that reminds me of a deer, leading into a darker brown/black.

I honestly can’t wait to wear this scarf once the weather cools down! It is so soft and cozy, and the brown could go with a lot of different outfits!

Easy Lace Scarf Pattern

This scarf pattern is pretty easy to make. There’s just a few stitches you will need to know in order to complete it—chains, single crochet, double crochet, and slip stitches.

These stitches are combined in different ways to get the pretty result you see in the photos. For example, the double crochets and chains will be combined to form shell stitches. And the chains and slip stitches will be combined to form picot stitches!

If that sounds complicated now, don’t worry. The written instructions are very clear, and I have included some photo tutorials to help you out as you make this easy scarf too.

The Yarn

I used We Crochet Arcadia DK Special Reserve yarn to make this scarf. Unfortunately, since this yarn was special reserve only, it doesn’t seem to be available on the We Crochet/Knit Picks website anymore.

Thankfully, you can use just about any DK weight yarn to make this scarf! However, I do recommend using one with some natural fibers. Arcadia DK is wool and alpaca, making it extra fuzzy and soft.

My top recommendation for a substitute would be We Crochet City Tweed Yarn! This yarn would still give your scarf a rustic feel (although it would not be striped unless you bought several different colors and made the stripes yourself).

Explanation: Meet the Rustic Lace Scarf! This scarf features an openwork stitch pattern with unique shells and picot stitches. Made with a soft yarn in rustic colors, it will add the perfect air of elegance to an outfit!

Materials:

• We Crochet Arcadia DK Yarn: (60% Merino Wool, 25% Alpaca, 15% Manufactured Fibers) 137 yds / 125 m, 1.76 oz / 50 g) 3 balls Doeling Brown
• Or approximately 350 yards of DK weight yarn. Suggested Substitute: We Crochet City Tweed DK yarn
• G/4mm crochet hook (or size to obtain gauge)

Repeat rows 3-10 until your scarf is just under the length you want. Then, repeat rows 3-8 once more. You can adjust the length here as you wish!  I did a total of 160 rows for a length of 72” after blocking.

Last row: Repeat row 9 once more to make the picot border. Fasten off.

Border (Other End of Scarf):

Go back to the other end of the scarf where you started. Join yarn with a sc on the opposite side of the chain. 

Row 1: Sc across, working on the opposite side of the chain. (27 sc)

Row 2: Repeat row 9. Fasten off.

FINISHING

1. Wet block your scarf to the finished measurements listed. You will want to block it slightly larger than the size you want, because it will shrink back on itself ever so slightly after removing pins.
2. After blocking, weave in your ends!

Rustic Scarf Crochet Photo Tutorial

If you need a little extra help with those written instructions, these photos will be just what you need! I am a visual learner myself, so I always like adding photos in with my patterns.

Below you can see the first few steps of making the scarf. In the top left you can see what your work should look like after making the first 2 rows. The shells will just be starting to form.

In the top right, you can see what your project will look like after doing a few more shell rows. Keep doing these shell rows until you have 6 rows total. Then you can move onto the single-crochet row. A close up of this is shown in the bottom left.

And finally, in the bottom right you can see the beginning of row 9, where you’ll make your first picot row.

As you can see in both photos below, the picots on row 9 will be separated by 2-double crochet clusters. Make sure to skip 2 single crochet in between each of these clusters.

For row 10, we need to get back to our shell rows! You’ll need to insert your hook in a weird place for this row, but don’t worry, it’s easy to get used to!

Start row 10 with 2 double crochet like normal. Then, insert your hook BETWEEN the next 2 double crochet (top left and right photos).

Make a shell in that same space where the hook was pointing. Then, make a double crochet in between the next 2 double crochet. Simply repeat alternating shells and double crochet across this row!

After finishing row 10, you know everything you need to know to make this scarf! Simply repeat rows 3-10 for the stitch pattern.

Conclusion

Have you ever made a Men’s Crochet Scarf?

It can be intimidating to crochet for men. You have to get just the right stitch—it can’t be too feminine, but also not boring.

Last Christmas, my boyfriend had hinted at wanting a crocheted scarf. So, I decided it was time to tackle the project and find the perfect stitch for a men’s scarf.

I chose to make an Alpine Stitch Scarf!

When I decided to make the scarf, I started searching for the perfect stitch. It proved harder than I thought to find the perfect one…but I finally settled on the Alpine Stitch!

In case you’re wondering, the Alpine Stitch is a rich textured stitch that uses front post double crochet and single crochet. It’s really not hard to learn! With the right color, it makes a great masculine stitch pattern.

Men’s Scarf Crochet Pattern With Lion Brand Yarn

While you can use any worsted weight yarn to make this scarf, I used one of my favorite Lion Brand yarns…

It’s a Lion Brand Heartland Pattern!

Heartland is one of my all time favorite yarns for scarves. The two colors I used for this scarf are Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Because the colors have a marled effect, it makes the scarf look extra rugged and manly! Heartland is the perfect yarn for this pattern, but you can use similar medium weight yarns as well.

How long should a men’s crochet scarf be?

The first thing I looked into when I started designing my first men’s scarf is length. How in the world do you know how long the scarf should be? Especially if you don’t want to try it on them as you go? (I didn’t want to because it was a Christmas gift)

I researched it a bit and found a few guidelines that were helpful:

1. You can make the scarf as long as they are tall
2. OR, you can make the scarf the same length as their arm-span when stretched out

Overall, I ended up writing this pattern in 3 lengths:

• Regular – 60″
• Long – 73″
• Extra Long – 87″

My boyfriend is about 5′ 11″ tall, and I made the long version for him, which is just a few inches longer than his height. And, it fits him great!

Oh, and in case you were wondering, it holds up great even while throwing snowballs

How wide should a men’s crochet scarf be?

While we’re on the topic of men’s crochet scarf dimensions, you might also be wondering how wide a scarf like this should be. A good width for a men’s scarf can easily range from 5-7″.

This scarf in particular measures 5.5″ across. However, this is very easy to adjust using the stitch multiple!

Let’s talk about the Stripes!

I chose to make this into a striped crochet scarf pattern…and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. The large sections of dark brown, and small sections of woodland green work perfectly together!

• Lion Brand Heartland Weight 4 Medium (94% acrylic, 6% Rayon, 251 yds/230 m, 5 oz/ 142 g) color A – Sequoia 2 skeins, color B – Kings Canyon 1 skein

This gauge is provided if you would like to get your scarf to look as much like the picture as possible. Because scarves are not fitted in any way, you can feel free skip gauge if you so desire, and simply follow the adjusting instructions to get the right size.

Skill Level

Intermediate – this scarf is not too hard to make, but you will need to know how to make front post double crochet stitches. For a full list of stitches used, see below.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first dc. Sc in each dc across, turn. (23 sc)

Row 3: Ch 1, dc in first sc. Fpdc around second dc from 2 rows below. Dc in next sc. *Skip one dc from 2 rows below, fpdc around next dc from 2 rows below. Dc in next sc. Rep from * across, turn. (11 fpdc, 12 dc)

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each stitch across, turn. (23 sc)

Row 5: Ch 1, dc in first two sc. *Fpdc around next dc from 2 rows below, dc in next sc. (note that all fpdc from here on out will be worked in regular dc sts from 2 rows below). Rep from * until 1 sc is left. Dc in last sc, turn. (10 fpdc, 13 dc)

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in each stitch across, turn. (23 sc)

Row 7: Ch 1, dc in first sc. *Fpdc around next dc from 2 rows below, dc in next sc. Rep from * across, turn. (11 fpdc, 12 dc)

Row 8-17: Rep rows 4-7 twice, then repeat rows 4-5 once.

Row 8: Rep row 4.

Row 9: Rep row 5.

Row 10: Rep row 6.

Row 11: Rep row 7.

Row 12: Rep row 4.

Row 13: Rep row 5.

Row 14: Rep row 6.

Row 15: Rep row 7.

Row 16: Rep row 4.

Row 17: Rep row 5. 

Row 18: Ch 1, sc in each stitch across. On last sc, complete last YO with CC to prepare for stripe. 

Rows 19-22: Rep rows 5-8, but use CC.

This is what your work should look like as you start row 19 in the new color:

Rows 23-40: Continue to work in the established stitch pattern with MC, changing colors in the same way as before.

Note: if all the “row repeats” confuse you, just think of it this way: you’re basically doing 4 rows in the CC, and then 18 rows in the MC, over and over again using the established stitch pattern the whole time.

ANOTHER NOTE: if you would like to minimize the amount of ends you have to weave in, carry the MC up the side of the scarf at the end of every single crochet row so that it will be ready to work with again after Row 22 is finished. This may look noticeable as you work it, but from a distance you can’t tell at all. See below/video tutorial for more information.

Continue to work in the established stitch pattern, doing 18 rows of MC and 4 rows of CC, for the following amount of rows:

Regular: Work to row 194

Long: Work to row 238

Extra Long: Work to row 282

If you are not following gauge at all, you can simply keep going in the stitch pattern until the scarf reaches your desired length. 

Finishing: fasten off and weave in all ends. Since the Alpine Stitch tends to curl on the edges, make sure you block the scarf to flatten it out (I used steam blocking!)

I love a good crochet cowl. There’s just something about the ease of throwing a cowl over a dress or top in the winter. That extra layer of warmth can do wonders for me!

If you’re looking for a warm crochet cowl, you’re probably going to want to use a yarn on the heavier side!

However, if you’re like me, you might not want to go ultra chunky and make one of those huge cowls you can barely see over the edge in…

Now don’t get me wrong here. Those types of cowls have their time and place. However, I personally love a good cowl made with worsted weight yarn, because you can get all the warmth you need without it being too bulky!

An Easy Crochet Cowl Pattern

Maybe you’re wondering if this crochet cowl is difficult to make…

It really isn’t!

You’ll need to know how to crochet the puff stitch, but this is easy once you get the hang of it.

Overall, I’d say this is an easy crochet cowl pattern that is perfect for anyone who wants to step up their game a bit (and not just use double-crochet the whole time) but also doesn’t want something crazy difficult.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first 2 dc. Sc in next puff st, sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next puff st. *Ch 3, sk next ch-2 sps and sc, sc in next puff st. Sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next puff st. Rep from * until 2 sts left. Sc in last 2 dc, turn. 

Row 4: Ch 3, dc in next sc. Ch 2, sk next sc, sc in next sc. Ch 2, sk next sc, *(puff st, ch 2, puff st) in next ch-3 sp. Ch 2, sk next sc, sc in next sc. Ch 2, sk next sc. Rep from * until 2 sc left. Dc in last 2 sc, turn. 

Row 5: Ch 3, dc in next dc. Ch 2, sk next ch-2 sp, sc in next sc. Ch 2, sk next ch 2 sp. *Sk next puff st, (puff st, ch 2, puff st) in next ch-2 sp. Ch 2, sk next puff st and ch-2 sp, sc in next sc. Ch 2, sk next ch-2 sp. Rep from * until 2 dc left. Dc in last 2 dc, turn. 

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sc. Ch 3, sk ch-2 sps and sc, *sc in next puff st, sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next puff st. Ch 3, sk ch-2 sps and sc. Rep from * until 2 dc left. Sc in last 2 dc, turn. 

Row 7: Ch 3, dc in next dc. (Puff st, ch 2, puff st) in next ch-3 sp. *Ch 2, sk next sc, sc in next sc. Ch 2, sk next sc, (puff st, ch 2, puff st) in next ch-3 sp. Rep from * until 2 sc left. Dc in last 2 sc, turn. 

Rep rows 2-7 until cowl reaches desired length. I did a total of 54 rows. Make sure to end on either a row 3 or a row 6. 

Finishing: Fold cowl in half and sew the ends together. Weave in all ends!
